Rules for activating the won key

#1

According to SG rules, a user who wins a game must activate it on the account they used to participate in the giveaway. If a user is found to have activated the key on a different account, their account could be banned, including permanently.

I couldn't find any information about this in your rules. I don't like it when users cheat. I always check to see if the user has activated the key. This is my first game giveaway with you, and the user already says the key is working and they activated it, but the game isn't on their account. What should I do about this?

For an example. This user has already won three games, but none of them are on his account with which he participated in the draw.

I gave them away to other people who confirmed they worked. Where does it say this is against the rules? And how would this be considered "cheating"?

I'm truly glad you won the key and confirmed that it works. I'm asking the site administration about this. There's nothing about this in the rules, although it should have been. I don't think you need to worry about it. Your account is just an example.

Thank you for the giveaway!

The site rules and the shape of the site as a whole is still in early development and many cases are still to be expanded.

For now, we are not actively restricting the key activation to the winners account, but that is something which will be considered in future (and it won't affect giveaways before new rule changes)

At the moment, it has become clear that unscrupulous users can:

  • Create multiple accounts to increase the chances of winning and farm games on the main account;

  • Activate the game on another account and indicate in SteamDrops that the key does not work, thereby spoiling the reputation of the account that distributed the key.

What about the second situation? The key is activated somewhere in there... and you're left to blame. How can I prove that the user who won the key is a fraud?

Hopefully, the rules will be revised.
Thank you for your work. Good luck in the development of the project.

Create multiple accounts to increase the chances of winning and farm games on the main account;
If caught, those users will receive permanent bans with both main and alt accounts

Activate the game on another account and indicate in SteamDrops that the key does not work, thereby spoiling the reputation of the account that distributed the key.
Yes, this is an issue, but there is no way to prevent this other than catching people doing that multiple times. Abusing fake invalid feedback also leads to permanent ban.

Thanks for the reply.
Without strict control over key activation only for the account participating in the giveaway, unfortunately, users can cheat on both the giveaway and the recipient side. Even Steam support's responses about the key activation date and time are useless in this case.

Interesting profile.
That account enters to win giveaways for others, and hasn't touched a single game since 2023.

The real issue isn’t the user, it’s the lack of clear rules. If activating keys on another account is allowed, then you can’t call it cheating. But at the same time, this creates an obvious abuse scenario where winners can falsely report keys as invalid and damage the giver’s reputation. Until there’s a rule that enforces activation on the winning account (or a verification system), both sides are exposed and the system is easy to exploit.

Actually, the site prevents you from entering for games you already own.
So using a "burner" account allows you to win an additional copy.
And without any enforcement of redemption, people could attempt to re-giveaway the game, turning a win into free XP for your account here, or sell / trade outside of the site.
